Natural Wood Furniture
Interlocking joints without screws or nails
Natural Wood Furniture is our first collection. It joins a group of designs sharing the same concept of a fun wood puzzle that is made of several pieces that when interlocked generate the completed furniture piece. All designs are made of FSC natural poplar wood and don’t use any screws or nails.
Poplar wood is a lightweight wood with a very bright color. Poplar tree is a very common tree all around the world. We have chosen this tree since it is a fast growing tree and available anywhere without being threaten of extinction. The resources needed for its growth are also very low and don’t need human intervention to sustain them.
Wood is a natural product that is easy to recycle and generate another sustainable product. Wood products are also biodegradable witch means that they will not hurt the environment when sent back to nature and will on the contrary sustain the natural growth of other species when decompose.
We studied, researched, tested and finally selected very strong joints for our designs. All wood furniture have different types of joints, but they all share the fact of being easy to assemble. Some of this joinery can be found on traditional popular wood construction in ancient Japan or ancient Europe. Others have been developed and created by our designers. We try to use this joints also as an aesthetic property of each design.
The puzzle strategy enabled us the use of the flat packaging system witch is a environment friendly way of transporting our furniture. Each piece is designed in order to fit optimized in the final design and in the flat package. Since anyone can build each piece each wood furniture can also be easily stored and transported for your convenience.
This group of chairs, tables, coat stands, shoe racks, shelves are intended for domestic use. They share also the fact that can be used on several tasks allowing a flexible use on several situations. This design strategy is also a way of increasing the design’s life cycle and therefore the environment sustainability.
OLD WOOD BECOMES MORE BEAUTIFULL
Wood is a natural product that can have scratches, deformations, color changes when years of use pass by. Nonetheless this process makes the piece beautiful since it shows the material natural organic properties. Wood is not made by man, wood is part of nature that we gave a new shape and bring to our houses. It’s deformations are a time stamp and an aesthetic of the authentic.
